Mystery Color Erupting Cups!

The boys and I made erupting cups today and it was a blast! It can be a messy activity, especially if you let your littles do their own pouring, but it's so worth it to see the excitement on their faces! Just make sure to have something under the cups to catch the excess.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
-clear plastic cups
-vinegar
-baking soda
-food coloring
-plastic spoons
- large pan

STEP 1: Start by placing cups onto a large pan and pour some vinegar into each cup. We didn't measure the amount, but it was about 1/2 cup of vinegar in each.

STEP 2: Next we poured a few drops of food coloring onto the spoons.

STEP 3: Next pour a heaping amount of baking soda onto the spoons, enough to cover the food coloring.

STEP 4: Now comes the FUN part! Take a spoon full of baking soda over to a cup and start mixing!

The boys were SO excited when their cups started fizzing everywhere! And they loved watching what color their "volcano" cups would turn!

See why the pan was needed!

My boys didn't want to fun to stop after the cups simmered down so they poured out their cups onto the pan. They loved turning the pan into a "rainbow" pan!

Then they decided they needed to pour more baking soda into the pan, ha!

And it fizzed everywhere! Yes, it made a mega mess but it didn't take long to clean up and the boys had a blast!
